Alice Washbourne

ALICE WASHBOURNE Alice is a London-based visual artist and writer. She uses her body and self-as-subject to explore personal themes of illness, loss, memory, psychological states and femininity. Although subjective, her work aims to communicate aspects of human experience that connect with a wider audience. She seeks an emotional, sometimes visceral response. Alice works in multi-media including printmaking, photography, drawing and stitch. Slow processes like etching, photogravure and combining media allow her to reflect and make sense of her experiences. In recent work she explores the affective impact of cropping, altering scale and using multiple images. Propelled by the experience of cancer, in 2019 she left a successful career in education and returned to her creative passions, completing a Foundation Art and Design Diploma at City Lit, gaining a Distinction. She has exhibited at Espacio Gallery, Shoreditch and Downstairs at The Department Store, Brixton.
